Health:
•    Is it necessary to get any vaccine before coming to Costa Rica?
No, it is not necessary to vaccinate before coming to Costa Rica, because in our country diseases such as malaria, marsh fever and hay fever were almost eradicated (except for some mountainous zones in the Caribbean and North Region of Costa Rica, where there still exist some malaria).


•    Is there a hospital or medical clinic near LICI?
Yes, in the city of Grecia there is a public hospital and several small clinics, and at just 25 minutes, in Alajuela, there is one of the most modern public hospitals of the country.


•    Is the water in the region potable?
In most of the towns and cities of Costa Rica there is potable water, this is because in the country there exists an institution which supervises the quality of the water we Costa Ricans consume.


•    Are there restrooms inside the houses and buildings?
Yes, it is normal that inside each house and building there be at least one restroom and a hot watered bathroom.


•    Is there much air pollution?
There are normal levels of air pollution due to cars and buses exhume, but this generally happens in the large metropolitan area, in a place like Grecia, contamination is very low

 


Weather:
•    What is the average temperature during summer or winter?
The temperature in Costa Rica is not quite changeable during the whole year; the range is between 13 Cº to 34 Cº.


•    What kind of clothes should I wear in Costa Rica?
In summer it is common, mainly for tourists, to wear shorts, t-shirts, and sandals or tennis shoes. During winter due to the rain, it is necessary the use of umbrellas and if it rains a lot, a rain coat. Inside the temple and other buildings, it is better to wear long pants (casual).


•    Is it important to use sun protection?
Yes, it is very important because the sun is pretty hot in our region.

 


Education:
•    What type of education do general people have in Costa Rica?
In Costa Rica literacy rate is about 95%, this means that most Ticos know how to read and write and a very high percentage of youths, have secondary and superior education.


•    How many universities are there in the country?
There are four State Universities and many private universities with campuses all over the country.


•    Is the Spanish spoken in Costa Rica similar to that of other Latin American countries?
The Spanish we talk in Latin America is very similar; except as it is normal, for the accents and certain words with different meanings.

 


Transportation:
•    Is the bus and taxi service good enough?
In Costa Rica, there is an excellent service of buses and taxis in most of the towns, in regards to cabs, there are two or three kinds of taxis, however, we recommend to use only the official cabs (the red ones).

•    Do many people have their own cars?
Lately, the amount of cars on the roads has increased, but still a lot of people use public transportation.


•    Is the public transportation expensive?
Not really, public transportation is generally affordable.

 



General Services:
•    Communication:  Costa Rica has all the basic modern communication services, such as: home telephones, cell phones, regular, fast and wireless internet, fax, international call cards, and cable T.V.
•    Electrification: In Costa Rica 95% of the national territory has electricity 24 hours a day seven days of the week.
•    Commercial Centers: There are medium and large supermarkets plus malls around the whole country.
